‘It’s a trap for Trump’: Former conservative offers Democrats a battle plan

Jonathan Last, a onetime conservative who left the movement in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s political rise, wants to see Democrats act like more like the GOP.Writing in The Bulwark, Last encourages Democrats to take a tone of “ruthless aggression” in their dealings with Republicans headed into Trump’s second term.First, argues last, Democrats should stop acting like the proverbial “adults in the room” who bail the GOP out of their constant dysfunction.”Do not help Republicans,” he writes. “Not in any way. On any issue. Republicans can’t pass a budget, or raise the debt ceiling? Tough luck. Do not provide them any bailout votes on any issue. Housing, as an issue, is a trap for Trump and Republicans. It’s a problem they can’t solve without creating other problems for themselves. Democrats ought to talk about housing all day, every day. Make it the new price of eggs.”
