WASHINGTON/ISTANBUL — Turkish authorities this month detained six Kurdish journalists from cities across the country. All six are accused of being members of a “terrorist organization,” a common charge used in legal cases against media in Turkey. The arrests came the same week that Turkey was named a leading jailer of journalists. Data from the Committee to Protect Journalists, or CPJ, show 11 journalists currently detained for their work in Turkey, five of whom are Kurdish.
