Federal employees on Wednesday were put on notice by President Donald Trump’s administration that “adverse consequences” would follow if they failed to report coworkers who refused to sweep out diversity, equity and inclusion policies from their department. The threat was sent out to tens of thousands of government workers across federal agencies, warning that the White House would not allow any efforts to “disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language,” The New York Times reported. Workers were given a 10-day deadline to turn in their colleagues via a “special email address” if they believed they were not complying with the new order. Those who followed the directive would not risk disciplinary action, according to the Times report.“There will be no adverse consequences for timely reporting this information,” the email template sent from the Office of Personnel Management to agency heads said. “However, failure to report this information within 10 days may result in adverse consequences.”ALSO READ: Inside the parade of right-wing world leaders flocking to D.C. for Trump’s inaugurationThe message added: “These programs divided Americans by race, wasted taxpayer dollars and resulted in shameful discrimination,” the Times said.Employees at the Education Department and the State Department received the emails Wednesday, the publication noted. However, a small modification to the templates sent to staff in other agencies slightly altered the message.“The Department of Homeland Security, for example, said failure to report D.E.I. efforts ‘will result’ in adverse consequences,” according to the Times. The warnings come as Trump has sharpened his attacks on “woke” culture after spending the 2024 campaign, and the weeks after his victory, rallying against DEI policies in the federal government and in the business world. He issued a series of executive orders Monday dismantling government DEI programs and putting federal DEI employees on paid leave, according to media reports.
