A neighbour described the moment they opened their door to find a man “lying on the floor” after being stabbed. Merseyside Police received a report that a teenager had been stabbed in the area of Bishopgate Street, Wavertree, just before 6pm on Tuesday, January 14.

The victim suffered a serious injury to his chest and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. Two men, aged 18 from 19 from Wavertree been arrested in connection with the incident and taken to a police station, where they will be interviewed by detectives.

Forensic examinations have been carried out at the scene and officers have been conducting house-to-house inquiries. Residents told the ECHO they were frightened to see the police scene on their doorstep.

One resident, who lives on Bishopgate Street, told the ECHO: “The street was full of police and I didn’t even know until my daughter came in and told me there was police out there, literally outside my doorstep.

“I waited a bit before I went out then I eventually came out and I saw them and a lad on the floor. I couldn’t see who the lad was because it was so dark and foggy. He was only young, you hear of it so much now.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, told the ECHO they were about to leave the house to go to the shop when they saw a police car outside.

They said: “I didn’t know anything had happened until I went to go out and my daughter rang me asking if I was OK, she heard there had been a stabbing on my road. It’s so sad but it’s happening all the time now. My friends have been texting me to check if I’m OK. I hope the boy is OK.”

One neighbour added: “I got home from work about 8 o’clock and saw the police, it’s scary. You just don’t know what you’re going to run into.”

Another said: “It’s frightening. I had gone out about 5.40pm in a taxi and my daughter phoned me to ask what had happened, I didn’t have a clue. It was about 1am when I found out it was a teen who had been stabbed. So young.

A third added: “It’s getting worse these days with these stabbings happening. I didn’t hear or see anything but it’s just frightening.”
