The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow across the country
A three-day snow warning has been issued for almost all of England, including Merseyside, this weekend as the Met Office shared a fresh warning. A yellow warning is in place from noon on Saturday until 9am on Monday, January 6 and covers all regions of England other than the south west.
The Met Office said there is a small chance of power cuts and mobile phone coverage being affected, while there could also be delays and cancellations to flights and trains. The warning covers all of Merseyside. Below is a map showing where the snow will hit the country.
Snow will begin to fall in parts of Merseyside from 12am on Sunday, January 5, according to the Met Office map. By 3am, all of Merseyside, as well as most of England, will be covered as 0.5 to 4mm of snow is expected to fall per hour. The snowfall will start to ease at around 6am for the rest of the day.
The Met Office said: “Isolated wintry showers on Saturday. Sleet and snow arriving into Sunday, perhaps heavy and disruptive in places and clearing early Monday. Staying cold with a risk of ice.”
Next week is expected to be “colder than average, with an ongoing risk of ice and frost.” The Met Office added: “There will likely be wintry or snow showers at times along coastal areas exposed to onshore winds, these occasionally feeding farther inland, but interspersed with some lengthy dry and clear spells.”
