Coronation Street’s Mason star Luca Toolan could be set for a stint on a rival soap following his heartbreaking cobbles exit
Coronation Street’s Luca Toolan might be heading to a competing soap after his surprising departure from the cobbles. Luca, who gained fame for his role as bully Mason Radcliffe on the ITV soap, first appeared in 2023 and quickly stirred up drama on the street. Soap fans were appalled as they watched him torment Maria Connor’s (played by Samia Longchambon) young son, Liam Connor (portrayed by Charlie Wrenshall), to the point where Liam contemplated suicide.
Mason was eventually sent to a Young Offenders institution for threatening Liam with a knife. However, he was later released and returned to the cobbles, determined to change his ways and distance himself from his violent family, including brothers Logan (Harry Lowbridge) and Matty (Seamus McGoff).
However, this week saw a terrifying twist when Mason’s brothers tracked him down. Disaster struck when Matty and Logan stabbed him with Dylan Wilson’s (Liam McCheyne) zombie knife, reports Lancs Live.
Abi Franklin (Sally Carman), whose own son Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) tragically died after an attack in 2021, made desperate attempts to save him. As the ambulance arrived, Mason was rushed to hospital. But it was soon revealed that Mason had tragically passed away, leaving the cobbles in shock over the devastating news.
Following the departure of actor Luca from Coronation Street, speculation is rife about his next move. Betway has given exclusive odds, placing Luca at 20/1 to switch to BBC’s EastEnders. Should he make a splash in Emmerdale, the odds stand at 25/1, whereas an appearance on popular reality series like I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! or Strictly Come Dancing is set at 4/1.
Moreover, Slingo’s Head of Brand Marketing Dom Aldworth shared insights with us, noting that post-Corrie, Luca “is primed for exciting opportunities”. A transplant to another soap would be a logical progression. “A move to another soap seems like a natural step. His skill in playing multi-layered roles could make him a strong fit for EastEnders, where he could bring his intensity to the Mitchells,” suggested Dom.
He continued: “Similarly, Hollyoaks offers the chance to explore fast-paced, action-driven storylines that would highlight his versatility.” Nevertheless, according to Dom, it’s not only soap operas that could benefit from Luca’s talents: “Luca’s commanding presence and emotional range make him a strong contender for roles in crime dramas, thrillers, or period pieces, where complex characters take centre stage.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
