Coronation Street fans are convinced they have ‘worked out’ who helps Rob Connor escape prison – but it’s not his son Bobby or his reported prison guard girlfriend

Coronation Street viewers reckon they’ve figured out who aids Rob Connor in his prison escape – and it’s not his son Bobby or his rumoured prison guard girlfriend. Recently, on the famous cobbles, Rob (Marc Baylis) made a surprising comeback eight years after his last sighting. Fans will remember that Rob is serving time for the murder of Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) back in 2014.

However, when Rob’s sister Carla Connor (Alison King) needed a kidney transplant, his son Bobby (Jack Carroll) decided to take action. He visited Rob to spill the beans – and although initially resistant, Rob eventually had a change of heart. But things took a dramatic turn during Bobby’s second prison visit when fellow inmate Matty (Seamus McGoff) brandished a knife and seized a prison guard, Mandy (Rebecca Atkinson).

Viewers will recall that Matty is incarcerated for stabbing and killing his own brother Mason (Luca Toolan). The brute threatened to murder prison guard Mandy – and when Rob intervened – Matty redirected his threats towards Bobby, warning he would kill him, before seizing Bobby and holding a knife to his throat, reports Lancs Live.

In the end, Matty was restrained and Bobby was overwhelmed with emotion as his father saved his life. However, in a shocking twist, it was later revealed that the entire hostage drama was orchestrated by none other than the mastermind Rob.

Since his return, it’s become increasingly obvious that Rob Donovan has a grand scheme in the works and is harbouring a secret agenda. And now Corrie fans reckon Rob is set for a dramatic prison break – with one key character could be the key to his freedom.

On a dedicated Corrie fan page on Facebook, speculation is rife about Rob’s former flame Tracy Barlow (played by Kate Ford), with one user musing: “I wonder if she gets back with Rob (Carla’s brother) when he comes out of prison.”

The same fan recalled how Tracy was once romantically involved with Rob around the time he was apprehended for Tina McIntyre’s murder, noting that it was Tracy who ultimately led to his capture but also highlighting their dynamic chemistry.

“She was in a relationship with him when he was caught for Tina’s murder and it was Tracy herself who set him up to get caught but they were brilliant together,” they said. Echoing this sentiment, another fan speculated: “Maybe she will help him escape! ” A third chimed in with certainty: “Yes it’s obvious that Rob is helping because he wants to escape.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
