What Happened: According to a Wall Street Journal report, the Competition and Markets Authority has said it’s probing Google over how its Search position could impact competition in the U.K.
The investigation would reportedly look into the extent of control Google has in Search and search advertising services and assess how Google’s influence might affect consumers and businesses using the services.
The report indicates the current Competition and Markets Authority regime came into force less than two weeks ago. The U.K. has new rules that allow antitrust officials to identify companies with strategic digital market status and impose conduct requirements related to fair competition.
