Nigel Farage has doubled-down on his stance that “repeated law breaker” Tommy Robinson will never join Reform UK, stating that “it just doesn’t work”.Speaking to GB News’ Christopher Hope at Reform’s South East Conference, Nigel reiterated that his party would not welcome Robinson into their party, despite some members’ support of the jailed activist. He also received support from Elon Musk, who has hinted at donating to Reform UK. Musk wrote on X “free Tommy Robinson” as he endorsed the controversial figure – adding he was “telling the truth” about grooming gangs.Farage told the People’s Channel: “If people want to like the guy, that’s fine. But don’t advocate that he should join our party, because that would let Robinson do what the hell he wants to do. We’re a political party, and never the twain shall meet.”At last week’s conference in the East Midlands, Lee Anderson was heckled by two members in the audience who shouted “We want Tommy Robinson”.Nigel echoed Lee’s response to naysayers of the party’s stance on Robinson: “Shut up or get out!”. He added: “And 998 [members} didn’t say that.”Discussing Robinson’s criminal past, the Clacton MP said: “He is a repeated law breaker over many, many years. Violence, entering America on a false passport. I mean, it’s a list as long as your arm. And that doesn’t suit a political party. “So people can say, look, we admire what he said about grooming gangs or what else. But please don’t tell me he should be part of Reform.”MORE LIKE THIS:‘Very angry!’ Farage accuses Tories of running scared as they press on with ‘act of cowardice’Martin Daubney erupts over push to delay elections as Reform row with ‘petrified’ LabourRachel Reeves told to cancel China trip as market meltdown could trigger ‘1976 level crisis’“If people want to like the guy, that’s fine. Farage did concede that he believed that Robinson had been treated “harshly” and does not deserve to be in solitary confinement. “I think that’s wrong,” he said.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence for contempt of court. The 42-year-old was jailed in October after admitting to violating a 2021 High Court injunction that prevented him from repeating false claims about a Syrian refugee schoolboy.
In videos posted on Facebook, which were seen by nearly one million people, Robinson falsely accused the 15-year-old refugee of attacking “young English girls”.
Musk’s support of Robinson comes amid the SpaceX founder’s increasing involvement in UK politics, where he has launched attacks on Sir Keir Starmer and Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips. He has accused the Labour party of running a “tyrannical police state”.
