Police are out in force in three areas of Liverpool after “incidents of criminality and violence”. A Section 60 Order has been introduced in north Liverpool.
The order was put in place at 6pm today, Sunday, January 19 and will stay active until 6pm on Monday, January 20, covering the areas of Walton, Vauxhall and Kirkdale. Police said an order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and is designed to prevent serious violence.
Chief Inspector Martin Mannion said the order has come into place following “criminality and violence”. In a statement, he said: “Our officers will be out tonight to ensure that there is a highly visible police presence to reassure communities in Walton, Vauxhall and Kirkdale, following incidents of criminality and violence.
“The Section 60 order allows us to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality.” Anyone with information about criminality and violence is asked to DM @MerPolCC, message ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook’ or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111. You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
