City centre venue taken over as record-breaking Scouse comedy premieres in Liverpool

The cast and crew of G’wed arrived at the Everyman Cinema for season two premiere

The cast and crew of hit comedy show G’wed arrived at the Everyman Cinema for the premiere of the new season tonight. The Merseyside set comedy has been a smash hit success since it arrived on ITVX last year.

Season one comprised six episodes and broke records as the most streamed comedy on ITVX when it was watched over 7.2m times. The overwhelming popularity prompted ITV to commission the series for a further two seasons.

The comedy, from writer Danny Kenny, follows the lives of a group of kids in Year 11 at school. The second series will continue to tackle life’s big themes, but still filled with comedy lines as the Scouse gang navigate new challenges, while keeping their love for Liverpool at the heart of everything.

Stars including Dylan Thomas-Smith, Amber Harrison, Gemma Barraclough and Philip S McGuinness were in attendance at the city centre cinema as they screened the first two episodes of the upcoming season, which returns to ITVX and ITV2 on Thursday, February 6.

The first episode is in tribute to The Vivienne, who has a cameo in the season two premiere. The drag legend, who was known as James Lee Williams out of drag, died aged 32 earlier this month.

The episode was filmed last summer and will be dedicated in tribute to The Vivienne with the blessing of their family. Mario Stylianides, who is an executive producer of G’wed, said: “All the cast and crew were so saddened by the passing of The Vivienne and the first episode will now be dedicated to them.

“The Vivienne was a trailblazing icon and we were truly honoured when we found out they were a fan of G’wed and equally excited when they agreed to appear in the first episode of the new series. They will always be in our hearts and forever part of the G’wed family.”

The ECHO was in attendance to capture photos from a special launch night for season two of G’wed at the Everyman Cinema. We have included a round up of some images below.
