Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr played together on stage this week
Paul McCartney’s fans all had the same idea after he brought his ‘Got Back’ world tour to an end. Sir Paul, 82, has been on the road since October and played two nights at The O2 in London this week, culminating in Thursday’s (December 19) show when he brought out Ronnie Wood and then Ringo Starr for the encore.
Arriving on stage, Sir Ringo said: “I’ve had a great night tonight, it’s been a great show.” The former Beatles then played ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ together before the 84-year-old drummer from Dingle added: “I’m off now, I’ve had a great night and I love you all.”
Fans were delighted to see the two play on stage together again. Following the gig Sir Paul sent a message to fans on social media, saying: “Thank you, London! We’ve been all over South America and Europe and here we are back home for the last shows of the 2024 ‘Got Back’ tour.
“Making its first stage appearance in 50 years… is my original bass! I haven’t played it in 50 years and what is more, here’s a special guest, a Rolling Stone: Ronnie Wood. And another surprise for you – the mighty, the one and only, Ringo Starr! See you next time!”
Sir Paul had brought Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood on stage for the song ‘Get Back’, which saw him play his original Hofner 500/1 bass for the first time in 50 years, after it was stolen in 1972. But the headline event was Sir Ringo’s cameo and it has given fans an idea.
Many have asked for the two to tour together. Fans have suggested Sir Paul and Sir Ringo should play in Liverpool, especially as the ‘Got Back’ tour did not have a date in The Beatles’ home city, with two nights at Manchester’s Co-op Live instead.
In the comments of Sir Paul’s post, Walzer said: “Ok now Paul you need to bring that bass to Hamburg, where you bought, first played and first recorded, and then to Liverpool, the place where you played it the most (Maybe at the Cavern itself? That would be wonderful)”
Instagram user Dale Liverpool said: “Bring Ringo up to Liverpool and let’s finish the tour in style Paul!” Leila_Zaap added: “Please do a tour together, you and Ringo, it would be the best.”
On Facebook, Tracy Adams said: “Bringing Ringo on made me and my hubby sob! Thank you for the most amazing show, your time, and the incredible catalogue of music you have given the planet. Keep on, keeping on.”
James Murphy kept his request brief, saying: “More Paul and Ringo stage appearances!” Vicky Millward hinted at wanting a Merseyside gig, saying: “Pity they never played in their home town Liverpool.”
On Instagram, helenmco65 said: “Just come on home to Liverpool Paul for a few shows, we’re waiting for you.”
