Text messages were uncovered after police pulled over a car
A man has been arrested after suspected cocaine was found hidden in a Fanta can during a stop check of a car. Officers spotted the vehicle involved in what appeared to be a drug deal on Menai Street, Birkenhead and indicated for the driver to stop soon after on Claughton Road.
The driver and vehicle were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act, when £700 cash was seized along with seven bags of white powder suspected to be cocaine, and bags of cannabis. The driver had also received messages suggesting links to drug supply.
One text message said: “Just an 1/8 u want” [sic] to which the person replied: “will be man yeah nice one. How long it take you to get to Menai street?” The following message said: “20 mins u want to meet us in that car park.”
A 44-year-old man from Poulton, Wirral, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs (cocaine and cannabis).
Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “Drug dealing is a trade that depends on violence and intimidation to exist, often relying on the use of weapons including knives and firearms.
“Those criminals involved in the supply of illegal drugs bring nothing but misery to our communities, and simply do not care about the violent and distressing consequences of their actions.
“We conduct stop checks such as this, warrants and land searches often as a result of information provided by the public. We count on their support to tell us where drug dealing is happening and where weapons are being stored, so if you have any information that might help us identify those involved, please contact us and we will do the rest.”
Anyone with any information about drugs or any other organised criminal activity is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101, DM us @MerPolCC or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
