A Speke man died after getting lost in woodland while on holiday in Thailand. Michael Jackson, 40, was found collapsed in the undergrowth after leaving the holiday home where he was staying with two friends.
Mr Jackson, a road surfacer from Western Avenue, Speke, travelled to Thailand to watch a boxing match on December 8, and was staying in a villa. An inquest at Liverpool coroner’s court today heard the 40-year-old went to a beach club party the night he arrived and stayed up until around 2 or 3am, consuming both alcohol and drugs.
He then left the villa to go to the shops, but never returned. On December 9, he was found collapsed in nearby woodland with “numerous cuts and scratches to his body”.

The court heard it was believed Mr Jackson had taken a wrong turn while going to the shops and became lost in the dense wooded area. He was taken to Ko Samui Hospital, in the Ko Samui district of Surat Thani, where he was treated for kidney failure.
His condition deteriorated, and his girlfriend Stephanie Draper said Mr Jackson was “hallucinating and saying strange things”. On December 14, he suffered respiratory failure and cardiac arrest and was placed in an induced coma. He died the following day, December 15, with the medical cause of death being “severe sepsis”.
Coroner Helen Rimmer said: “On December 8 Michael had attended a party at which he had consumed alcohol and drugs. On the 9th, he was discovered in dense woodland close to the village where he was staying. He had sustained numerous cuts and scratches to his body. The police in Thailand found no suspicious circumstances.
“Michael was in regular contact with his partner while in hospital and said he was receiving treatment due to his kidneys. Sadly his condition deteriorated due to sepsis; he suffered respiratory failure and cardiac arrest and died on December 15 2024.”
Handing down a narrative conclusion, she said: “Michael Jackson died from severe sepsis. The exact course could not be identified. It arose while he was in hospital receiving treatment following being found collapsed in a woodland area while on holiday in Thailand.”
