Larry Lamb hints Gavin and Stacey Xmas special might not be the last
Larry Lamb became emotional as he offered a glimpse into the finale of BBC’s beloved comedy, Gavin & Stacey, admitting to being left “weeping” after reading the script.
The 77-year-old actor discussed the eagerly-anticipated return of the series during his appearance on the recent episode of Loose Women. With a five-year hiatus drawing to a close, fans are set to witness the much-missed characters’ lives evolve in a final reunion this Christmas Day.
Speaking about the upcoming festive special, Larry shared how the screenplay moved him profoundly. He said: “I knew from the moment I read it, this is something special. You’re going to get thrown up into the air over and over again. It’s absolutely extraordinary.”
Reflecting on the poignant moments, he added: “I sat with Alison (Steadman), we were side by side and by the end of it the pair of us were weeping. It’s really so emotional.”

When Loose Women panellist Judi Love asked Larry what specifically made the finale so emotional, Larry elaborated: “The story, the storyline, it just emotes us like that. It’s a great story, the whole thing,” reports the Mirror.
Larry spoke fondly of the cast dynamics saying: “You know, with everybody there and you’ve all grown up together, you know when the youngsters were young and the oldies weren’t so old, yeah it’s extraordinary.”
During the show’s premiere on Thursday (December 20), the Gavin & Stacey cast came together to celebrate its latest instalment. Ruth Jones, Nessa’s portrayer and co-writer of the series, confessed her own nerves despite wishing she could channel her character’s confidence.
The actress expressed her admiration for her on-screen persona, saying: “What I love about Nessa is she doesn’t care what anyone thinks. I wish I could be a bit more like that in real life.”
Elaborating further, she added: “I just love her directness. If I’m feeling nervous about something, I often channel my inner Nessa to be able to say ‘Oh, love, back off’. I just love playing her, I really do. I love the history of her life and the things that she’s done, which are quite phenomenal.”
Gavin & Stacey initially launched in 2007 on BBC Three but its burgeoning success saw it later transition to the screens of BBC One. Ruth Jones not only acts but also co-wrote the hit series alongside James Corden, who takes up the role of Smithy.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1.
