Gail had a happy ending to end her time on the Cobbles
Gail Platt left Coronation Street for the final time this evening as she embarked on a new adventure as a newly wed with Jesse Chadwick. The two headed to France to start a new life together.
The wedding which has been a controversial topic for the Platt family finally took place today, December 25 with Gail’s mum Audrey swallowing her pride and giving Gail her blessing before she wed Jesse in a ceremony held at the Bistro.
The hour-long Christmas special marked the end of a Coronation Street era and many emotional scenes aired throughout with intimate scenes between the mum and her children Sarah, David and Nick. Viewers also saw clips of others who live on the street sending messages of love to the long-standing Weatherfield veteran including Sally, Eileen, Ken and Rita.
As the happy couple left the famous cobbles for the final time in a wedding car, the last words spoken by Helen Worth’s iconic Gail Platt character were “Ready as I’ll ever be Mr Chadwick” as they leaned in for a kiss.
After the credits rolled on the Christmas Day episode fans were treated to an additional message from Helen, who announced her departure from the show earlier this year. She said: “Hello, all of you. It’s wonderful to have this opportunity to say, ‘ta ta!’
“It’s been a fabulous fifty years, and I just wanted to thank all of you, some of you who may have been watching for fifty years. Is there anybody? And those of you who’ve been watching for a few years. Thank you.
“Thanks for coming on the journey with me. I‘ve had a wonderful time. I’ve loved it all. All the stories, and of course, working with the wonderful Platts, which, for me, is what it’s all about. And there’ll be more Platt stories, and I hope you’ll be watching. Lots of love and thanks from me. Bye.”
