Lightning strike near Bramley-Moore
A video shows the dramatic moment lightning struck near Everton FC’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. A brief spell of thunder and lightning hit Liverpool on Saturday evening (December 21), with it striking areas along the River Mersey and hailstones falling as well.
The video, captured by Instagram user Paul Madden Photography, shows the bolt of lightning near Everton’s new 52,000 capacity stadium, illuminating the area around the ground. Other lightning strikes were reported in the North Liverpool and South Sefton areas shortly after 7pm on Saturday.
A Met Office yellow weather warning for wind is in place for Liverpool and other areas in the UK until 9pm tomorrow (December 22). About this, the Met Office stated: “A prolonged period of strong winds will likely lead to some disruption over the weekend, especially to travel.”
About Sunday’s forecast, the Met Office added: “Strong and gusty northwesterly winds are expected to develop on Sunday. Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected quite widely, and around some exposed coasts and hills of gusts 70 mph are possible, especially in the north and west. In addition, squally showers are likely with some hail and thunder possible in places.
“This has the potential to cause delays to public transport and some disruption to the road network, which may have a greater than usual impact given the busier pre-Christmas weekend travel. Dangerous coastal conditions can be expected too, with large waves an additional hazard.”
