Despite the outcome of the election, the liberal comedian Bill Maher gave Democratic viewers of “Real Time” on Friday night a small note of optimism — and a dose of reality. In his opening monologue, Maher said a “lot of people are freaking [out]” but he opened the window and the “sun was still shining, the birds were still singing.””My gardner was packing for Mexico, that’s different,” he joked, to laughs and applause.Maher said while he didn’t for the winner, President-elect Trump, he awaits what they will do. If they live up to their word.”He joked that Trump left “holes” in the border wall as part of his plan to deport 12 million people to Mexico. He then gave Democrats a stern message — to no immediate applause. “My message to the losers: Losers look in the mirror,” he said. After a brief pause and no reaction from the audience, he joked, “No?” For months, he said, Democrats kept asking how the race could be close.”And they’re right — it wasn’t,” he deadpanned, to groans. Trump won not only the popular vote but all seven battleground states. “They could not conceive a second Trump term. But they should have! When has America ever turned down seconds?”Maher joked that Trump won so many electoral college votes, he called the Georgia secretary of state and asked him to lose him 11,000 votes — a nod to Trump’s infamous 2020 phone call.Maher also jabbed voters who broke for Trump including white women.”Exit polls said he grabbed 52% of white women — and he also got their votes!” Maher joked.Watch the clip below or at this link.
