The US military has officially declared two Navy SEALs, who went missing earlier this month in the Gulf of Aden, as deceased. This announcement was made by military officials on Sunday.
The SEALs were initially reported missing following their involvement in an operation on January 11, near the Somali coast. During this operation, they boarded an Iranian vessel, as detailed by the US Central Command.
CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “We mourn the loss of our two Naval Special Warfare warriors, and we will forever honor their sacrifice and example. Our prayers are with the SEALs’ families, friends, the US Navy, and the entire Special Operations community during this time,” he said.
In recent developments, the US has conducted several strikes against Houthi targets in response to attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea. These Houthi attacks have disrupted global trade and sparked concerns over potential supply bottlenecks.
On Saturday, US Central Command forces targeted a Houthi anti-ship missile in the Gulf of Aden. This missile was reportedly positioned for launch, according to the US military. This action is part of the ongoing efforts to maintain security in the region and protect global trade routes.
