Elon Musk, alongside American journalist Ben Shapiro, embarked on a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. This visit aligns with International Holocaust Remembrance Day and is part of a broader engagement in a symposium on fighting antisemitism held in Krakow, Poland.
At the Krakow symposium, titled ‘Never Again: Lip Service or Deep Conversation,’ Musk and Shapiro will engage in a discussion focusing on the rise of online antisemitism. This event, organized by the European Jewish Association (EJA), brings together senior political figures from Europe and Israel to address the growing concern of antisemitism in the region.
Musk’s participation in this event and his visit to Auschwitz, where over a million Jews were exterminated by the Nazis, comes after a live conversation with Jewish leaders on X. During this interaction, he accepted the invitation to visit Auschwitz and discussed his Jewish connections, stating his aspiration towards the Jewish faith.
The visit and symposium are part of a broader initiative to combat rising antisemitism in Europe. The EJA is inaugurating the ‘European Leader’s Forum for Combatting Antisemitism’ to focus on creating legislation against hate speech and engaging with universities and sports institutions to promote antisemitism-free environments.
Musk and Shapiro’s visit to Auschwitz is more than a symbolic gesture. It represents a commitment to understanding the horrors of the Holocaust and taking active steps to address the troubling rise of antisemitism, particularly online.
