Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has extended an invitation to former US President Donald Trump to visit Kyiv. This invitation follows Trump’s claim that he could halt the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours if re-elected. Zelenskyy made these remarks during an interview with Matt Frei of Channel 4 News.
In the interview, Zelenskyy stated, “Donald Trump, I invite you to Ukraine, to Kyiv. So, if you can stop the war during 24 hours I think it will be enough to come.” He also mentioned his interactions with congressmen, noting that the majority of them, “99.9 percent,” support him.
This development comes as Ukraine continues to face severe challenges from the conflict. The country’s two largest cities were recently targeted by Russian hypersonic ballistic missile attacks, causing significant casualties and damage. Officials reported that the attacks on Tuesday killed at least four people and injured almost 100, as the conflict nears its two-year mark.
The missiles used in these attacks, the hypersonic Kinzhal missiles capable of flying at ten times the speed of sound, hit residential areas in both Kyiv and Kharkiv. Zelenskyy confirmed the death of four civilians and 92 injuries resulting from these assaults.
These recent attacks are part of a broader escalation by Russian forces, which began last Friday with their most extensive single assault on Ukraine since the war’s onset, resulting in the deaths of at least 41 civilians.
Zelenskyy’s invitation to Trump is a significant diplomatic gesture, reflecting Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to garner international support and find solutions to end the conflict.
