As PSG faces numerous challenges in the remainder of the season, the French champions have opted to bolster their squad during the winter transfer window, with a focus on reinforcing the stopper position.
Currently, this position is a critical issue for PSG, especially with key players like Presnel Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes injured. Captain of the Slovak national team, Milan Škriniar, remains the sole reliable stopper for coach Luis Enrique.
To address this, PSG has set its sights on Lucas Beraldo, a 20-year-old stopper from Brazilian club Sao Paulo. PSG is set to pay 20 million euros for Beraldo’s services.
He has made 48 appearances for Sao Paulo in all competitions this season, scoring once in the Brazilian Serie A. Beraldo, a native of Piracicaba, joined Sao Paulo in January 2020. For PSG, defending their French championship title is not the only priority for the rest of the season.
The club also harbors the ambition of winning the Champions League, a feat yet to be achieved in Paris. Advancing past the round of 16 against Real Sociedad is one of their immediate goals. Additionally, PSG’s participation in domestic cup competitions underscores the importance of squad depth to manage their packed schedule.
