The Chinese‍ consulate in San Francisco experienced a violent incident on Monday when a driver crashed their car into the building. Unverified footage circulating⁣ on social media captured the chaotic scene as police officers pointed their weapons at the ⁣driver’s door while people hurriedly fled to safety. The ⁢consulate spokesman expressed strong condemnation for this violent attack, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and the potential threat it posed to the lives of staff and‌ visitors, ⁣as ⁤well as the significant damage caused to the premises.

According to Sergeant Kathryn Winters from the San Francisco Police Department, authorities responded promptly to reports ‌of a vehicle crashing into the visa office. Upon entering the building, police officers confronted the suspect, and an officer-involved shooting ensued. Despite efforts from officers, paramedics, and medics to save the ⁣suspect’s life, they were pronounced dead at the hospital later on. ⁢At this time, no information⁤ regarding the suspect’s identity has been released by the police.

The situation remains an active investigation, with⁣ the San⁤ Francisco Police Department collaborating closely with the US ‌State Department. The ⁣consulate spokesman emphasized their firm commitment to pursuing accountability for the incident, calling for a prompt and‌ thorough⁢ investigation‍ to determine the facts and for⁣ appropriate legal consequences to be imposed.
