Hunter Biden Expected to Plea Not Guilty to Firearms Charges

Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, is scheduled to appear in federal court in Delaware today to face charges of illegally possessing a handgun. The 53-year-old Biden is facing three felony charges related to his 2018 purchase of a .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver. Specifically, he is accused of making false statements on the required forms for the gun purchase, claiming that he was not using drugs illegally at the time. Additionally, he is charged with illegally possessing the firearm for a short period of time before disposing of it.

Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has informed the court that his client intends to plead not guilty at the arraignment. However, a request for Biden to appear via video was denied, and he will have to be present in person.

The case has been closely watched, especially considering a failed deal made in July between Biden’s legal team and federal prosecutor David Weiss. Under this deal, the gun charges would have been dropped, but Biden would have pleaded guilty to two tax charges, thereby avoiding jail time. Since the deal fell through, Weiss has filed the current gun possession charges and is still investigating possible tax charges against Biden.

Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine and China while his father was vice president have been a target of scrutiny by Republicans. However, he has not been charged with any crimes related to his foreign business dealings, and there is no credible evidence to suggest that his father was involved in any illegal activities.

It is important to note that Biden’s personal struggles, including alcoholism and crack cocaine addiction, have marred his life. Nevertheless, President Biden has consistently expressed his support for his son and has maintained that Hunter has done nothing wrong.

As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this situation may impact President Biden’s reelection campaign next year. Ultimately, the court will determine the outcome of the case, and Biden will have the opportunity to present his defense and assert his innocence.
