Danelo Cavalcante, who had escaped from Chester County Prison and remained on the run for nearly two weeks, has been apprehended alive in Pennsylvania, according to an announcement by state police on Wednesday morning.
The capture involved a significant law enforcement presence, with heavily armed police establishing a perimeter in the South Coventry Township area late on Tuesday. The exact location where Cavalcante was located remained undisclosed.
Pennsylvania State Police, in collaboration with U.S. Border Patrol, successfully apprehended Cavalcante near the residence where he had stolen a .22-caliber rifle equipped with a scope and ammunition from an open garage on Monday night. During the burglary, the homeowner fired his pistol at Cavalcante as he attempted to flee.
Residents had been advised to secure their homes as Cavalcante was considered armed and “extremely dangerous.”
Cavalcante had escaped from a Chester County facility on August 31 while awaiting transfer to a state prison to begin serving a life sentence for the brutal stabbing of an ex-girlfriend 38 times in 2021. Additionally, he was wanted for the 2017 murder of a man in Brazil over a debt related to vehicle repairs. It was reported that he was in the U.S. unlawfully.
The extensive search for Cavalcante involved over 500 law enforcement officers representing various state, local, and federal agencies. The search efforts spanned challenging wooded terrain.
