A cable car incident in Battagram, North-West Pakistan has left eight school children, their uncle, and another adult stranded over 900 feet in the air after two wires snapped. It happened around 8 a.m. while the kids were on their way to school, as per Mufti Gulamullah, the Allai tehsil chairperson.
A rescue operation is ongoing, with the Pakistan Army assisting. Helicopters have been spotted in social media footage at the scene. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar stressed the need to use all available resources for a successful rescue.
Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of safe chairlift arrangements in hilly areas. He ordered the closure of unsafe or poorly maintained chairlifts. This directive aims to prevent similar incidents and protect lives. Safety audits are also being conducted for tourist infrastructure in their regions.
