The death toll resulting from Russian missile strikes on residential buildings and other structures in Ukraine has now reached seven, with 67 individuals reported injured. The Ministry of Internal Affairs provided the updated figures on Tuesday after the missiles struck the downtown area of Pokrovsk in the eastern Donetsk region, an area partially occupied by Russia.
The strikes caused extensive damage to several buildings, including nine and five-story apartment blocks, houses, a hotel, restaurants, shops, and administrative structures, as confirmed by Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the missile strikes, accusing Moscow of attempting to devastate eastern Ukraine. He accompanied his statement with visuals depicting the destruction, notably featuring a partially demolished five-story residential building.
Russian forces have been consistently targeting civilian areas with missiles, drones, and artillery during the ongoing conflict. The Kremlin contends that its attacks focus solely on military assets and attributes any other damage to debris from Ukrainian air defense systems. However, the veracity of these claims remains unverified due to the conflict’s complexities.
In a separate incident, an overnight assault on the town of Kruhliakivka in the Kharkiv region resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries.
These developments unfold shortly after diplomatic talks held in Saudi Arabia, where representatives from approximately 40 countries sought peaceful solutions for the Ukrainian war.
