Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer is set to leave Bayern Munich soon, and the Allianz Arena is already considering his replacement by bringing in a Spanish goalkeeper.
Yann Sommer was brought to Bayern when Manuel Neuer broke his leg, but after the German’s return, the Swiss goalkeeper was expected to take a place on the reserve bench. However, Sommer has no intention of being a benchwarmer and will be leaving the club by the end of the summer transfer window.
As reported by BILD journalists, just six months after his arrival from Gladbach for 8 million euros in January, Sommer will depart from Bayern.
He is expected to become Inter’s new goalkeeper in the coming days, filling the void left by Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana, who recently left the club. Meanwhile, Bayern is already working on bringing in a replacement for Sommer, a goalkeeper who will serve as Neuer’s backup, and their attention is on 27-year-old Spanish goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford. Raya’s contract with the English club runs for one more year, until the end of the season.
Raya’s journey started when he moved from Cornella to Blackburn as a teenager, played on loan at Southport, and eventually arrived at Brentford four years ago for €3.35 million. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has announced that Bayern intends to introduce Raya in the coming days, and given his track record, it is likely to happen as reported.
In Munich, the focus is currently on the anticipated arrival of Harry Kane, overshadowing the saga surrounding the backup goalkeeper. Nevertheless, Sommer is still a Bayern player and will remain so until the club decides to release him, though there is a possibility that he could move to Inter Milan.
