Berylson, an American businessman, became associated with the club in 2006 and subsequently became a significant shareholder in 2007. He is survived by his wife Amy and their three children, Jennifer, James, and Elizabeth.
In a heartfelt statement, Millwall expressed their profound sorrow, stating, “It is with a collective broken heart and the deepest of regret that we announce the passing of our beloved owner and chairman, John Berylson. Berylson served as Millwall chairman from 2007, succeeding Stewart Till. Under his passionate leadership and guidance, the club experienced two promotions to the Championship. This season, Millwall finished eighth in the league, narrowly missing out on a play-off place on the final day.
The statement continued, “John’s influence in providing the platform for some of the greatest moments in Millwall’s history was immeasurable. He lived for the club’s underdog status and mentality, relating strongly to its values and identity. Millwall supporters held a special place in his heart, and he was fiercely loyal to his staff. His legacy will forever be remembered.”
