Ukrainian forces are making steady advances near the flashpoint city of Bakhmut, while taking a defensive stance against Russian forces near the eastern city of Kupiansk. According to Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Malyar, there is a daily advance on the southern flank around Bakhmut, with ongoing firing between Ukrainian and enemy forces in the city. On the northern flank, Ukrainian forces are holding occupied positions and defending against enemy attacks. In Kupiansk, the enemy has been actively advancing in the Kharkiv region for consecutive days, while Ukrainian forces maintain a defensive posture. The battles in these areas are fierce, with positions changing dynamically throughout the day.
Malyar also reported that the enemy continues offensive actions in the Avdiiv and Marin areas, while Ukrainian defenders effectively contain them. Fierce battles persist in these areas with no significant changes in positions.
Over the past month, Ukrainian and Russian forces have engaged in intense clashes as Ukraine pushes forward to regain control over Russian-occupied territories. The battles on the eastern front have been particularly challenging, as Russia has concentrated a large number of troops in an attempt to reclaim the initiative.
The city of Bakhmut holds strategic importance as it was seized by Russia after a prolonged and bloody battle. Regaining control over Bakhmut would be a significant moral victory for Ukraine in the conflict.
