A man who attacked and killed his wife in her own home in Bethnal Green was given a life sentence by a judge after an investigation by the Met police using a considerable amount of CCTV tracking his movements.

Quyum Miah, 41 (30.09.81) of High Street, Homerton. was informed on Friday, June 9 at Southwak Crown Court that he will serve at least 33 years in prison.

Her Honour Judge Hales KC said that this was a very serious case, and that she had no doubt that the defendant had killed Ms. Begum for money when she handed down the sentence; there was a critical level of arranging and deliberation, the litigant had a conceded history of taking from Ms Begum to finance his medication propensity.

After concerned school personnel visited Yasmin’s residence on March 24, 2022, when she failed to pick up her children from school, they discovered her collapsed inside her address in Globe Road, E2.

Items, including her bank card and the jewelry that Yasmin was wearing, had been taken from her after she had been repeatedly stabbed.

The Met’s Specialist Crime Command’s Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith led the investigation. He said: ” The severity of Quyum Miah’s imprisonment reflects not only the violence she committed that day but also the deliberateness with which he took Yasmin’s life.

“As they continue to struggle with their loss, our thoughts remain with Yasmin’s family.”

Yasmin and Miah were married, but they had been separated for about a year and were going through divorce proceedings. Detectives quickly began to piece together his movements as they focused on him. A convincing case was made against Miah through dynamic interventions to secure evidence and forensic analysis of CCTV footage.

CCTV captured Miah leaving his address in Homerton at approximately 09:55 on the morning of the murder as he made his way to Yasmin’s house. He was seen carrying a green and yellow life bag in addition to a rucksack. Miah showed up in Globe Street at around 10:30hrs and a neighbor saw a man accommodating his portrayal dallying nearby Yasmin’s location.

Yasmin went about her day without realizing that Miah was waiting near her house. She said she was going to the dentist after picking up her children from school after visiting a neighbor at 14:00, and she left about half an hour later. At 14:36 p.m., she had a brief phone conversation with a friend. The friend later said that it sounded like Yasmin was in her house, and nothing seemed unusual.

After that, Miah went into Yasmin’s apartment and viciously attacked her. Before fleeing the address, he took her jewelry and bank card and locked the door from the outside.

He was next spotted on CCTV at 14:57hrs traveling north away from Yasmin’s location; He was seen carrying the life bag, which was green and yellow and appeared to be full. This bag was thrown in the trash by Miah; When the officers got it back, they found Yasmin’s blood-stained clothing inside.

Miah used Yasmin’s bank card to withdraw £800 in cash shortly after the murder; He also pawned two pieces of her jewelry for about £200 two days later.

Miah was taken into custody on March 27, 2022, at a location in Plaistow, after detectives discovered evidence of divorce proceedings inside Yasmin’s home.

On looking through his location in Homerton, officials tracked down a footwear with hints of Yasmin’s blood on it; they likewise found a thing that had been taken from inside her location.
