Karim Benzema to Leave Real Madrid After 14 Years at the Club

Karim Benzema, the Ballon d’Or-winning striker, will be leaving Real Madrid after a remarkable 14-year tenure at the club. The French international, who joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2009, will depart on a free transfer at the end of the season. It has been reported that Benzema has received a “record offer” from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia and is set to sign a two-year deal with the club.

During his time at Real Madrid, Benzema achieved tremendous success, winning five Champions League titles and four La Liga titles. He has played a crucial role in the team’s triumphs and holds the record for winning the most major titles with the club, totaling 25 trophies. Benzema is highly regarded for his professionalism and contributions to the club.

Real Madrid expressed their appreciation for Benzema’s dedication and stated that he has earned the right to decide his future. His departure marks the third confirmed exit from the team within two days, following the announcements of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio leaving this summer.

Benzema, who currently sits as the second-highest goalscorer in Real Madrid’s history with 353 goals, will make his final appearance for the club in their last match of the 2022-23 La Liga season against Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid acknowledged his impact on the team and described him as one of the great legends of the club and world football.

With the departure of key players like Benzema, Real Madrid will need to strengthen their squad, particularly in the striker position. Spanish striker Joselu from Espanyol and Tottenham’s Harry Kane have been mentioned as potential signings. Additionally, Real Madrid is reportedly planning a move for Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe next summer. The club’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, spoke highly of Kane but emphasized the need to respect both the player and his current club, Tottenham.

Real Madrid’s recent disappointments, including failing to retain their Champions League title, have sparked speculation about significant changes at the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
