A man has been arrested following a car crash into the gates outside Downing Street. The Metropolitan Police swiftly responded, apprehending the individual with the assistance of armed officers on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and investigations are currently underway.

In response to the incident, the police cordoned off Whitehall, the main road that passes by Downing Street, deploying officers with sniffer dogs near the gates. The event unfolded at approximately 16:20 BST and resulted in a temporary closure of the road, which has now been reopened to traffic.

Eyewitnesses observed one man being led away by the authorities. Footage captured at the scene shows the car decelerating as it approaches the main entrance of Downing Street, the official residence of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his family. Moments before impact, the vehicle slows down, ultimately colliding with the gates that are vigilantly guarded by armed and unarmed police officers round the clock.

Although the incident occurred while the prime minister was present at Downing Street, he has since departed for a scheduled visit. Meanwhile, the car involved in the crash remains outside the gates, surrounded by police tape as officers continue their investigations.

This event unfolded during a time when numerous civil servants in government departments were concluding their workday, adding to the sense of urgency and concern surrounding the incident.
