Two individuals sustained serious injuries following an assault by an alleged XL bully in Mansfield, as reported by Nottingham Police. During the incident, it’s believed that a woman accidentally fell from the window of the apartment where the attack transpired.
Following the incident, police managed to secure the dog from a neighboring property, placing it in safe kennels. In connection to the event, a 38-year-old male and a 24-year-old female were apprehended on charges of permitting a dog to act dangerously out of control.
Although the sustained injuries are not considered to be fatal, investigations continue to determine the specifics of the episode.
This attack comes at a time of increased scrutiny for the XL bully breed. Following a series of recent incidents and fatalities linked to the American XL bully, the government, in October, declared a forthcoming ban on the breed.
With the newly instituted regulations, starting from 31 December, XL bullies are required to wear muzzles. Furthermore, activities such as breeding, advertising, and selling of the breed will be prohibited. By 1 February 2024, ownership of an XL bully will be deemed illegal, barring those who register their dogs on the Index of Exempted Dogs and adhere to stringent rules by the end of January.
