Nissan has just announced that it will only introduce fully electric models from now on. This is a huge leap forward from their earlier plans of introducing nineteen electric cars by 2030. Now, every new Nissan in the European market will be an EV by 2030 at the latest.
But that’s not all – Nissan is putting its money where its mouth is. The company will be injecting a total of 40 million euros into Nissan Design Europe (NDE) and Nissan Technical Center Europe (NTCE). These departments, based in the United Kingdom, will receive the funds to support their activities.
The timing of this announcement couldn’t be better. Nissan’s latest models, the Qashqai and the X-trail, are still fresh and will continue to impress customers for years to come. Even the Micra, which didn’t quite meet expectations, has been canceled, but fear not, an electric successor is already in the works. The only model that might be affected by this new promise is the Juke, the oldest fuel car in Nissan’s lineup. However, it’s highly likely that the Juke will also have an electric successor in the near future. Thankfully, with its 2019 birth year, the Juke still has some life left in it.
Now, you might be wondering what this means for Nissan’s global plans. Well, the company will still introduce some “non-EVs” around the world, but their numbers will be limited. Nissan has promised a total of 27 electrified models between now and 2030, and 19 of them could be fully electric. So for Europe, we can definitely look forward to those 19 exciting new EVs.
