Police have closed a major road near Birmingham city centre following the collision involving a high-performance yellow Lamborghini Urus and a second vehicle on Saturday. Officers from West Midlands Police were called to the scene shortly after 12:00pm today.
The collision involved a distinctive yellow Lamborghini Urus, valued at approximately £200,000, and a second car, confirmed to be a Skoda. The impact of the crash is evident in photos from the scene, with the Lamborghini appearing badly damaged in the middle of the road with at least one wheel knocked out of position.
The incident, saw officers from West Midlands Police close the road, Summer Lane, which borders the Hockley area. Drivers in the area are being warned to anticipate significant disruption and delays throughout the afternoon.
The road is currently blocked between New John Street West and New Summer Street by a police cordon as officers carry out enquiries into the cause of the crash. The cordon also extends to cover a section of New Summer Street as the scene is investigated.
Birmingham Live reports from the scene confirm the second vehicle, a Skoda was left “smashed against a wall” on the corner of Summer Lane and Lower Tower Street. Both cars sustained severe front-end damage and the airbags in both vehicles were deployed. Debris can be seen scattered across the roadway, close to where 30mph signs are posted.
It is currently unknown if anyone has been seriously injured in the high-impact collision. West Midlands Police said: “Summer Lane, Birmingham. Road blocked between New John Street West and New Summer Street due to an incident. Expect some delays to your journey, plan ahead.” The advice remains for drivers to avoid the area while the road remains shut.
The police presence remains strong on the busy route, which is situated close to several industrial units and car-related workshops.
