The Hamas-led health ministry in Gaza has reported that the death toll in the region has risen to 10,569, marking a significant increase from the previous count. Among the deceased, 4,324 are children, and injuries have reached a staggering 26,457 according to the ministry’s latest update.
This rise comes amid an intensifying situation that began on 7 October when Hamas launched an offensive into Israeli territory. This incursion has been met with robust retaliatory strikes by Israel.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has indicated that the hostilities have forced over 700,000 people from their homes in Gaza. Despite the ongoing airstrikes, Israel maintains that it is making concerted efforts to minimize civilian casualties. Measures such as the establishment of humanitarian corridors, the distribution of evacuation leaflets, and targeted phone calls to residents, especially in northern areas, are steps Israel has highlighted as part of its efforts to protect civilians amidst military responses.
The conflict’s escalation has drawn international attention and raises pressing concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza as both sides continue to engage in heavy fighting.
