A missile attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, claimed the lives of six individuals and injured at least 14 more. The attack targeted a postal distribution center called Nova Poshta. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the incident on Telegram, sharing footage of the damaged building with the company’s signature red trucks in view.
The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synehubov, indicated that several of the injured were in critical condition. The victims were employees at the facility, and due to the suddenness of the attack, they had little time to seek shelter.
While these events have been reported by Ukrainian officials, independent verification is pending, and no immediate comment has been released by Russia. Both nations have previously stated they avoid targeting civilians during the ongoing conflict.
Elsewhere in Ukraine, recent shelling by Russian forces has resulted in more civilian casualties. In Nikopol, a man lost his life due to a Russian strike from the nearby Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The town’s emergency services are currently evaluating the damage.
Russian Defense Ministry’s Igor Konashenkov reported that their forces targeted and destroyed fuel and ammunition depots close to Kryvyi Rih’s airport. Ukraine has not yet addressed this claim.
Meanwhile, in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, another civilian lost their life, with another wounded amidst “mass shelling” by Russian troops. Attacks on the region included a variety of heavy artillery.
