Two Men Arrested After Mocking Late Football Fan Bradley Lowery at Match

Two men were arrested for allegedly mocking Bradley Lowery, a young fan who passed away from cancer. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the individuals, aged 27 and 31, are currently in custody on suspicions of outraging public decency.

The episode took place amidst Sheffield Wednesday’s game against Sunderland on Friday. Pictures emerged showing two individuals holding up a phone that displayed an image of Bradley Lowery, laughing after Sheffield’s 3-0 Championship loss to Sunderland.

Bradley Lowery became a heart-touching figure in the football community. At just 18 months old, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. Tragically, he lost his battle with the disease in 2017 when he was just six years old. He had been an avid Sunderland supporter and had even met Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe, forming a close bond with the striker. Defoe often referred to Bradley as his “best mate”.

Following the match incident, Bradley’s devastated parents, Carl and Gemma Lowery, were contacted by the Durham Police due to the influx of calls and messages they received about the photos.

The Bradley Lowery Foundation expressed gratitude towards Sheffield Wednesday for swiftly condemning the act and appreciated the support and empathy shown by many fans.

Reacting to the incident, Mrs. Lowery stated, “Cancer has no colors – it can affect anyone at any time.” Emphasizing the need for sensitivity and unity, she highlighted the universal nature of the disease.

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club denounced the act as “outrageous and utterly deplorable” and extended their apologies to Bradley’s family and friends for the undeniable pain caused by the incident.
