A synagogue in Berlin became the recent target of a violent act as two petrol bombs were hurled at it, causing significant alarm within Berlin’s Jewish community.
Authorities reported that the culprits threw “burning bottles filled with liquid” in an apparent arson attempt. Anna Segal, the director of the synagogue, expressed the increasing anxiety felt by the Jewish community, stating that they have felt progressively threatened in the preceding days.
Meanwhile, other parts of Berlin witnessed violence during anti-Israel demonstrations, with emergency services reportedly assaulted near the iconic Brandenburg Gate.
Despite the evident damage from the petrol bombs, regular police protection persisted for Jewish institutions in Germany. Notably, police officers were present during the attack. Another incident occurred shortly after, when a man charged towards the synagogue shouting anti-Israel slogans. He was promptly detained.
In response to the escalating situation, security measures have been fortified around the synagogue and the associated community center in Berlin’s heart.
