Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, currently playing for Juventus, has received a provisional suspension following a positive test for a banned substance in Italy. The test was conducted after Juventus’ victory against Udinese on August 20th. The results indicated the presence of testosterone, a hormone known to enhance athletes’ endurance. Italy’s anti-doping agency immediately imposed a provisional suspension on the 30-year-old French player.
Pending a trial and further testing of a backup “B” sample, Pogba could face a suspension of up to four years. Pogba has faced numerous injuries since his return to Juventus from Manchester United just over a year ago. Notably, he missed France’s journey to the World Cup final last year due to a knee injury.
Additionally, there has been an ongoing police investigation in France surrounding allegations of extortion involving Pogba, including accusations against his older brother, Mathias, who has denied any involvement.
Juventus responded to the failed test by acknowledging it in a statement and indicating, “The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps.” So far, Pogba has participated in eight Serie A matches for the club.
