American basketball player Tristan Thompson, aged 32, is taking on an unconventional role, legally becoming the guardian of his 17-year-old brother, Amari. This decision follows the tragic loss of their mother, who passed away from a heart attack six months ago.
Tristan Thompson cited Amari’s medical condition, which renders him unable to care for himself, as the primary reason for seeking guardianship. Amari faces the challenges of epilepsy and other medical diagnoses that require round-the-clock support. Following their mother Andrea’s sudden demise in January, Tristan has been caring for his younger brother. According to reports from American publications TMZ and People, Tristan has formally submitted the necessary documents to a California court.
In his filing, Tristan stated, “The appointment of a specially appointed guardian for Amari is necessary to ensure that someone takes responsibility and meets his basic needs. In addition, Amari will share in the inheritance of her recently deceased mother and will not be able to dispose of that money without a guardian.” The documents reveal that Amari is set to inherit $103,475.
Tristan Thompson is already a father to four children by three different women. He shares two children, True (5) and Tatum (1), with reality star Khloe Kardashian, though they are no longer together. While Tristan has been an NBA player since 2011, he is currently without a team. His last game was in May 2023 when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers against Denver. Throughout his career, he has played for the Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, and spent the most extended period, nine seasons, with the Cleveland Cavaliers, with whom he won an NBA championship.
Despite his success on the basketball court, Tristan Thompson has often made headlines due to his high-profile relationships, notably with one of the Kardashian sisters. He has faced legal disputes related to his financial responsibilities, including a lawsuit from Maralee Nichols, who sought $47,000 a month in alimony and over a million dollars in attorney’s fees, as Tristan is the father of her son, Theo.
