A man, in his 40s, was urgently taken to the hospital on Friday evening following an assault by a dog, suspected to be an American bully XL, in Pasley Park, Walworth, south London.
According to the Metropolitan Police’s spokesperson, the incident occurred just after 18:00 BST, with the man sustaining a bite wound on his arm. The dog’s owner reportedly left the scene with the grey-colored dog before the police’s arrival.
The police are actively looking for the dog owner, and as of now, no arrests have been made, with investigations still underway.
The incident is the latest in a series of dog attacks across England, drawing attention to the issue of potentially dangerous breeds. Notably, a recent incident near Walsall led to a man’s death, causing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to demand a swift review of the situation, considering potential breed bans.
Furthermore, another recent episode where an 11-year-old girl was attacked in Birmingham has reignited discussions on prohibiting specific dog breeds.
Nevertheless, the Dog Control Coalition, comprising notable organizations like RSPCA, Battersea Dogs Home, and the Royal Kennel Club, believe the focus should be on “irresponsible breeding, rearing, and ownership” rather than targeting specific breeds.
