French forward Ousmane Dembélé has inked a five-year contract with PSG, as confirmed by the French champions on Saturday.
The Dembélé saga, spanning three weeks, concluded triumphantly as the French representative cleared the medical examination last night. This morning, he formally signed the five-year pact, marking his official introduction as a new PSG addition. Dembélé, a World Cup victor with France in 2018, has been aligned with Barcelona since 2017, extending his contract with the Blaugrana from 2022 to 2024. Notably, Fabrizio Romano highlights that Barcelona received a compensation fee of 50.4 million euros for Dembélé’s transfer.
“I’m absolutely delighted to join Paris Saint-Germain, and I’m eager to grace the field in our new colors,” expressed Dembélé. “My aspiration is to keep progressing here and bring pride to all the club’s devoted fans.”
Dembélé’s journey commenced with Rennes before his move to Borussia Dortmund in 2016. A significant highlight was securing the DFB-Pokal with Dortmund during the 2016-17 season, capped off with a goal in the final. A year later, he transitioned to Barcelona, commanding an initial fee of €105 million, then jointly ranking as the second most expensive footballer alongside compatriot Paul Pogba. In his tenure, Dembélé achieved three La Liga, two Copa del Rey, and two Supercopa de España titles. Having earned 20 caps and netted five goals at youth levels, Dembélé made his senior international debut for France in 2016. His participation encompassed winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup, featuring subsequently in UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Over his six-year stint in Catalonia, the 26-year-old Dembélé engaged in 185 matches for Barcelona, netting 40 goals. This duration yielded three league titles (in 2018, 2019, and 2023) as well as two Spanish Cups (in 2018 and 2021).
