Arsenal are set to secure the fourth major summer reinforcement with goalkeeper David Raya joining from Brentford for €30 million. He is set to undergo a medical examination and sign a contract until 2028.
At 27 years old, Raya is an excellent goalkeeper and a member of the Spanish national team, adding strong competition for Aron Ramsdale. He arrived in England as a teenager, initially signing for Blackburn in 2012, later joining Brentford in 2019. His standout performances helped Brentford secure their historic placement in the Premier League, and he has been highly rated in the league for the past two seasons. Despite Ramsdale being a vital player under Mikel Arteta, many believe Raya will have significant playing time given his talent and experience.
Arteta’s preference for Raya stemmed from his excellent kicking abilities, making him an ideal addition to the team. Bayern Munich also showed interest in Raya, but Arsenal secured his signature.
Before Raya, Arsenal acquired Kai Havertz for €75 million, Declan Rice for €116 million, and Jurien Timber for €40 million. With Raya’s transfer, the club’s total spending this summer reached €260 million.
In the opening game of the new Premier League season, Arsenal will face Nottingham Forest on August 12th at 1:30 p.m.
