Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez was found guilty on three gun-related charges after shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an argument in 2020. The shooting polarized the music world and resulted in Megan Thee Stallion requiring surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot.
Lanez’s lawyer stated that he plans to appeal the sentence due to significant issues with the trial, including the lack of DNA evidence tying Lanez to the gun used. Lanez’s lawyers argued for probation and a drug treatment program, and it remains uncertain if he will face deportation to Canada.
Prosecutors had requested a 13-year prison sentence, emphasizing Lanez’s actions and behavior after the attack.
The shooting occurred after a pool party hosted by reality star Kylie Jenner. Lanez’s lawyers suggested that Megan Thee Stallion’s friend and assistant, Kelsey Harris, might have been involved in the shooting due to jealousy, but Harris denied these claims in court. Megan Thee Stallion expressed in a victim impact statement that she will “never be the same” following the attack.
