Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish have appeared as defense witnesses in the trial of Kevin Spacey, the Oscar-winning actor accused of sexual offences against four men between 2001 and 2013. Spacey has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Filmmaker David Furnish provided evidence via video link from Monaco, followed by Sir Elton John, who identified himself in court as “Elton Hercules John.” During his testimony, Furnish addressed Spacey’s attendance at a charity event hosted by Sir Elton John, where one of the complainants alleges the sexual assault took place. Furnish stated that he had reviewed photographs of the event and confirmed that Spacey had only attended that particular year.
Sir Elton John confirmed that Spacey stayed overnight at their Windsor home after the charity event. However, he stated that he couldn’t recall any further interactions with Spacey after that occasion. Sir Elton also acknowledged that Spacey had purchased a Mini Cooper at an auction held that night to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
When asked about Spacey’s presence at the event, Sir Elton confirmed that Spacey arrived in white tie attire, having flown in on a private jet. However, he couldn’t recall specific details about the Mini Cooper being kept at their home or any subsequent visits by Spacey.
Kevin Spacey observed the proceedings from the dock during Sir Elton John’s testimony.
The trial is ongoing.
