Karim Benzema, the former Real Madrid striker, has officially joined Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad. After bidding farewell to Real Madrid, Benzema expressed his desire to finish his career at the Spanish club but acknowledged that life sometimes presents unexpected opportunities.

In a brief statement, Benzema conveyed his excitement to join Nuno Espirito Santo’s Al Ittihad, the reigning champions of the Saudi League, saying, “I’m looking forward to seeing you in Jeddah.”

The details of the transfer reveal that Benzema will earn approximately 200 million euros for a two-season contract, with an optional additional season. Additionally, he will receive a bonus of around 20 million euros for serving as an ambassador for the 2030 World Cup bid. More specifics of the agreement will be disclosed in due course.

Benzema’s departure from Real Madrid marks the end of a 14-season tenure at the Spanish powerhouse. During his farewell ceremony, the French striker expressed his gratitude to the club, stating, “I wanted to finish my career at Real Madrid, but sometimes life gives you another chance. It’s a very difficult decision that I have taken with my family. But I will never forget Real Madrid.”

As a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid on June 30, Benzema joins Al Ittihad in a record-breaking deal. The official signing took place with the presence of Al Ittihad club president Anmar al Haeli and vice-president Ahmad al Kaaki, as announced by Saudi state television Al Ijbariya.

Karim Benzema’s move to Al Ittihad represents a significant change in his career trajectory, leaving behind a storied history at Real Madrid and embarking on a new chapter in Jeddah. The transfer has sent shockwaves through the football world, with all eyes now on Benzema’s journey with his new club.
