Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited front line positions in the eastern Donetsk region and the southern part of the country, where Ukrainian forces have been engaged in fighting against Russian forces. Zelenskyy decorated the troops during his visit and described the day as a “happy day,” expressing his well-wishes for more successful days for the soldiers.
In a video address released in the early hours of Tuesday, Zelenskyy shared his experiences from the visit and discussed his discussions with US President Joe Biden regarding weapons supplies. He emphasized the importance of these weapons in providing more power and protection to Ukrainian lives, bringing victory closer and ensuring the freedom of all Ukrainian land.
Videos posted by the president’s office documented Zelenskyy’s journey, showing his interactions with troops and his positive comments about Ukraine’s ongoing counteroffensive. The locations visited included the eastern Donetsk region, which has been a significant battleground, as well as areas in the south where Ukrainian forces have captured villages. Zelenskyy awarded military decorations, had coffee with soldiers, and examined maps with officers during his visit.
According to Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar, Ukrainian forces have recently regained control over Rivnopil, a village in the Donetsk region, and have recaptured additional territory in the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia region. Ukrainian forces reported minor advances in several directions in the east, despite fierce resistance from Russian forces. The past week witnessed over 250 battles in various areas.
The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence noted that Ukrainian forces have intensified their assaults around Bakhmut city and made advances in the northern and southern parts of the city. The ministry also stated that Russia appears to lack the ground force reserves necessary to reinforce against the multiple threats posed by Ukraine in widely separated sectors.
President Zelenskyy’s visit to the front lines and his positive remarks about the progress of Ukrainian forces contrast sharply with the ongoing turmoil in Russia following the brief mutiny by the Russian Wagner Group’s mercenary forces.
