Snapchat Launches AI Chatbot My AI with Mixed Reviews

Snapchat recently launched an artificial intelligence chatbot, My AI, which has received mixed reviews from users. Powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, My AI is pinned to the top of users’ chat feeds, and only paid subscribers can remove it. While many users have praised the new feature for its ability to answer questions, offer advice, and even plan trips, some have expressed concerns about the use of location data and the potential for biased or incorrect information.

In response to these concerns, Snapchat has updated My AI to clarify when it is aware of a user’s location and stated that the feature “does not collect any new location information” without user consent. The company has also emphasized its commitment to privacy and transparency, stating that “privacy is a foundational value” for Snapchat.

Despite mixed reviews, millions of users worldwide now have access to My AI. However, some users in the US have taken to “review bombing” the app, leaving one-star reviews on Apple’s App Store. In the UK, reviews have been more measured, with some users complaining that they are unable to access the feature.

Snapchat has responded to these criticisms by stating that the “vast majority” of users with early access to My AI have been enjoying it, with millions of messages sent per day. The company has also acknowledged that My AI may not always be accurate and that its responses “may include biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading content.”

Despite these challenges, Snapchat remains committed to improving the My AI experience for its users. A Snap spokesperson told the BBC that the company has “appreciated all the feedback from our passionate community as we continue to improve the experience.”

Overall, the launch of My AI represents an important step forward for Snapchat, as the company seeks to leverage artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience. While there are some concerns about the use of location data and the potential for biased or incorrect information, Snapchat has responded to these concerns by emphasizing its commitment to privacy and transparency. As My AI continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how users respond to this new feature and whether Snapchat is able to deliver on its promise of a more personalized and engaging chatbot experience.
